Biography
Danik Manzhos is a Ukrainian artist, born in 1997, known for his unconventional, free-form characters that defy traditional boundaries. Rather than tying himself to particular genres or movements, he takes a fluid approach and invites both himself and his audience to experience art with playfulness and detachment. In his view, staying an outsider frees him from the constraints of seriousness and allows greater freedom in action, movement and thought.
His work often mocks or ironises familiar subjects and motifs. This draws viewers into an open process of interpretation, where the meaning of a piece is not fixed but changes with the perspective of the person looking at it. For Manzhos, the meaning of an artwork is a shared experience: the artist lays the foundation, and the viewer completes the story.
His latest series fuses mythological and cartoonish pop-culture icons that have long been part of our collective consciousness as symbols. He first models these figures in three dimensions using digital techniques and then transfers them onto canvas, combining oil pastels with airbrushed acrylic paint for a strikingly modern yet tactile finish. The series marks a bold new chapter in his practice, exploring both form and medium.
