Biography
Andrii Dudchenko is a Kyiv-based artist, monumentalist and lecturer. He studied at the M. S. Samokysh Crimean Art College (1998–2002, diploma with honours) and at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (NAOMA) in Kyiv, in the Workshop of Sacred Painting of Prof. M. A. Storozhenko (2003–2009, Master's degree with honours). He then completed an assistantship under Prof. Storozhenko (2009–2012).
His work sits at the intersection of monumental sacred art and experimental painting, using painting, installation and mosaic. It combines academic training, archetypal imagery and metamodernist explorations of new forms of sensitivity. In 2010 he received the Presidential Grant of Ukraine for Gifted Youth for the monumental triptych "Baptism of Prince Volodymyr" and the publication of a catalogue.
His monumental work includes paintings for a church in the village of Pinchuky (2009–2011, cold encaustic) and for the cathedral in Dzhankoi. From 2012 to 2014 he took part in restoring the Assumption Cathedral and the Refectory Church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
His projects include "Renaissance Illusions", which reinterprets the Renaissance heritage through a metamodern lens, and "Figures", an installation built on archetypal symbols of human presence in culture and history. In "Silence and Loudspeaker" the loudspeaker, a symbol of the era of air-raid alerts, becomes a new "icon of the times". "Last Trembitas" uses the trembita as a sign of collective memory and a warning of catastrophe. "Installation with Fountain" presents a mosaic fountain as a portal between past and present.
He has collaborated with Ya Gallery Art Center since 2011. Since 2022 he has taught in the Department of Monumental and Easel Painting at the Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design.
